Easter customs in English speaking countries

 

There is an interesting and exciting egg rolling race in some countries including the U.K. and the U.S.A. In this race the winner is the egg that reaches unbroken the bottom of a hill or a slope.

In the USA a big race is held in Washington D.C., on the lawn of White House where children push an egg with a long-handled spoon. Sometimes even the President of the USA takes part.

 

 

In England this race is called ’pace-egging’. The word pace refers to Easter, and this event was once widespread, but nowadays it is practiced in a few areas. The main event is held in Avenham Park in Preston. Children use decorated hard boiled eggs and the winner is the egg that arrives furthest without cracking.
